Common questions
A backup is a copy of your data. A disaster recovery plan is the documented process for getting the business running again — who does what, in what order, how long each step takes, and how you communicate while systems are down. Plenty of companies have backups and no plan, and discover the gap at the worst possible moment.
At least annually, and after any significant infrastructure change. A test means actually restoring to a working state and timing it, not confirming the backup job reported success. Untested recovery plans fail in predictable ways: missing credentials, dependencies nobody documented, restore times far longer than anyone assumed.
User onboarding and offboarding, licence assignment, report generation, patch deployment, backup verification, and most routine Microsoft 365 administration — typically through PowerShell. The test is whether a task is repetitive and rule-based. If a person follows the same steps every time, it’s a candidate.
